Jarrett Taneyhill qualified for states on his first throw, setting a new PR.

Yesterday’s 2A District 6 track meet ended with B-A coming home with one district champion and two other athletes who qualified to go to next week’s PIAA state meet.

Junior Lexi Gerwert tied Huntingdon’s Bethany Ledford’s 2011 record of 11 feet in pole vault as she continued her bounce back season, winning another gold medal in the event she won her freshman year too.

Senior Jarrett Taneyhill put on a valiant effort in the javelin, which was enough to solidify a second place finish and his second straight berth to the state meet. He threw a season best 171-7. Taneyhill was locked in at yesterday’s meet, knowing that he had to have a great day to give himself a chance at making states.

“It felt good to go to Districts and PR. I knew I had to do better than I’ve been throwing in order to go to states so it felt amazing when I was able to accomplish that,” said Taneyhill.

Clay Engle also came in second in the triple jump, jumping 44 feet. Like Gerwert and Taneyhill, Engle’s performance was good enough to get him a spot in the PIAA meet. He competed in three jumping events at districts.

“Clay had a very impressive day. He was the only jumper to place in all three jumping events at the meet. That just shows the amount of athletic ability he has that he is able to accomplish that feat. The last athlete we had do that was Brian Leap, who has been actually working with Clay a little bit. Next week will be a little easier for him because he will only have to concentrate on doing one event. I think with the rest he could make some noise in the triple jump at the state meet,” said head coach Nick Lorvich.

Ethan McGee came within a second of qualifying for states in the 300 hurdles but ultimately came up just short.

In the 1600 relay, Tanner Worthing, Ethan McGee, Shawn Wolfe, and Nick Watters came within a second of qualifying for states, making it the second event where McGee coming so close to qualifying.

“It felt good to place top 10 as a team, but slightly disappointing individually missing states by barely one second in two events,” Ethan said.

As a team B-A boys placed 5th overall as they had solid outings from top to bottom of their team.

“I was very pleased with our performance at districts. We talked last week about everyone having their best day all on the same day and that’s just about what happened,” said Coach Lovrich. “We had a lot of PR’s and that turned into us placing in a lot of events. We were very close to qualifying in three more events with our 1600m relay, Ethan McGee in the 300’s and Matt Glunt in the long jump. We are very excited for Jarrett and Clay qualifying in the Javelin and the triple jump.”
