Today is Red Nose Day, Red Nose day is a fundraiser that has a mission to lift kids out of poverty and has raised $1 billion in the last 25 years. Money is donated by celebrities and regular people around the world. Red Nose Day has launched in the U.S. in 2015, and raised over $23 million.
$1- pays for a child living in a homeless shelter in the US
$5 – gives antibiotics to treat a child with pneumonia world wide
$35- gives an eye exam and glasses to a child in need in the US
$4- gives an anti-malarial net to protect a mother and her baby in Africa
The US Red Nose Day is based on the Comic Relief charity in the United Kingdom. The American organization was created in 1986. Robin Williams, Bill Crystal, and Whoopi Goldberg were chosen to co-host Comic Relief fundraiser.
The first US show netted $2.5 million and more than $50 million have been raised since.
This year on NBC there will be a red nose day special on Thursday at 9. This hilarious comedy will feature celebrities coming together. Well-known names such as Ellen DeGeneres, Jack Black, Liam Neeson, Anna Kendrick, and Zack Efron and more.
Recently Walgreens has partnered up with Red Nose Day selling red noses, adding merchandise, and novelty items.

In the UK Comic Relief has become a cultural phenomenon. Hundreds of celebrities partake in this even every year, promoting commercials, TV shows, and even music videos.
In 2003 the day of the TV show 35 million pounds were made and a total of over 61 million pounds were raised setting a new record. The show consisted of a Harry Potter parity staring well-known actors.
In recent years the total has only skyrocketed. In 2013 over 75 million pounds were raised. Well known events include One Directions music video bases off of Blondies and The Undertones famous songs and the Great British Bake Off held an event.
Last year the highest record of over 99 million pounds was collected.
