ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kamryn Mercer

Kamryn Mercer is a quiet and unassuming person until she steps on the volleyball court. Then she’s a killer.

At Monday’s volleyball game, the Lady Blue Devils won all three sets against Northern Bedford and Mercer, a junior, had 14 kills and 7 blocks.

Kamryn also is a long jumper, high jumper, and a triple jumper in track. Outside of sports she is involved in Spanish Club and other community activities.

Mercer has been playing volleyball since she was in elementary school.

“I played with my sisters,” she said. “I joined the Bellwood team and I loved it ever since.”

Kamryn enjoys being on a team with her friends and getting to spend time with them.

“My favorite thing about playing volleyball is being on a team and hanging out with friends,” said Kamryn.

Kamryn practices with State College teams in the off-season to better herself.

“My goals are to continue to work hard and to keep getting better to perform the best I can,” she said. “For my team, my goal is to play as a team and lift each other up, to keep moving forward and achieve our goals.

“I am proud of my team and how far we have come this season. We may have one loss but we will work together to finish out this season.”
