Iconic Emo Bands

Lordin Willilams, Staff Writer

If you grew up listening to this genre of music, then these next three bands were more than likely something you would have listened to.

Panic! At The Disco

P!ATD of course has to be at the top.  Even though they aren’t really a band anymore, Brendon Urie is still going strong. Songs such as Victorious, Nine in the Afternoon, and of course, I Write Sins Not Tragedies are some of the most popular. I’m also not a huge fan of when bands change the way their music sounds, but Panic has done it in a way that suits their audience and over time, it was very subtle.  With five albums, Brendon is doing pretty well.  They have been around for 13 years and is still selling out stadiums. I have a feeling they are going to be around for a while.

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance is the epitome of an emo band. Most known for their classic, Welcome to the black parade. The song starts off as a march and filters into a fast paced hit that was at the top when it came out. With their go to look being all black with eye liner, one look and you know what they play. Their songs are on the depressing side, especially Ghost of You, which you have to watch the video for to add to the effect of the song.

Green Day

Here is one band known for their “rebellious” aspect. Most of their albums revolve around rebellion. Mostly American Idiot and Dookie are the albums that best support the theme. Also becoming popular in the 90s, they had a good year to come out with the album Dookie, and American idiot coming out in 04. American Idiot is probably their most popular with songs such as  Holiday/Boulevard of Broken Dreams, American Idiot, and Wake me up When September Ends. There most iconic song, Time of Your Life was on the album Nimrod, which kind of set off their career.
