3. Travis Barker (1993-Present) (The Aquabats, +44, Box Car Racer, Transplants, Blink-182)
Ah yes. All the rappers love this kid of course mostly because of how many tattoos are on him. But they actually look past him and don’t see his true talent. Travis Barker is honestly the best punk rock drummer of our time. At least I believe so. I don’t know what you guys think and believe. Barker’s work is mostly known to be in the band, Blink-182, but there has indeed been some falling out between the group. Although Barker was part of the reason that original lead singer and lead guitarist of Blink-182 left the group twice, Tom DeLonge, Barker was the one that they knew they should and had to keep. Barker is the drummer that we all know is great as soon as we see him improvise in between songs, but he also practices on a drum set pad and still goes full speed on that one single pad. Pretty awesome to watch if you want to check it out.
2. Carter Beauford (1991-Present) (Dave Matthews Band)
Known as one of the greatest drummers of all time, Carter Beauford ranked number 10 on the Rolling Stones top 100 drummers of all time back in 2016. Beauford is known for his infamous work in the Dave Matthews Band. Beauford’s best work has been seen in a “GoPro” video on YouTube where he goes ham on the drum set. This drum solo is actually one of the drum solos Beauford plays while the band sets up for their next song in their set list. You can’t get any faster and more rhythmic than what he played in this video. It’s incredible how his arms go so fast on the toms, his legs go fast on the kick pedal and his one single hand speeding away on the snare.
1. Dave Grohl (1981-Present) (Scream, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters)
Everybody has at least heard of a Dave Grohl song once in their life. Not only is he known for the greatest alternative rock band of our time right now, but he’s also known for the greatest grunge band of all time, Nirvana. Plus, he’s even named the “God Father of Rock.” Grohl played in several other bands before Nirvana and the Foo Fighters including Queens of the Stone Age, Scream, The Crooked Vultures, Killing Joke, Sound City Players, Daim Bramage, Mondo Generator, Teenage Time Killers, earthlings?, and Juliette and the Licks. Grohl’s drumming is most known for Nirvana’s 199 album, “Nevermind,” their 1992 album, “Insecticide,” and their 1993 album, “In Utero.” I don’t think anyone would top Grohl as a drummer. Some people would disagree with me and say that my number two spot on this list should be my number one. But come on. We’re talking about the legendary Dave Grohl who manages to do a double kick pedal with just one kick drum on Nirvana’s hit single, “Aneurysm.”
