These BAMS students weighed in on the activity period debate.

Many middle schoolers don’t like the options that are available for activity period, or they just want more choices. We interviewed some students for their opinions about this subject, and here’s what they had to say.

Q1: Do you wish we had more options for activity period?

Cami Focht: Yes, and I think we should be able to go to the gym and other rooms in the school.

Carena Eamigh : Yes, I think that we should have an extra activity and there should be options to go outside, since it is our free period.

Annie Bardell: Yes, because some activities are not very fun.

Kole Dickinson: Yes, because some people don’t like some of the options.

Q2: Do you like the options we have now?

Cami Focht: Yes, but I think we should have more choices of what we can do.

Carena Eamigh: No, I don’t some of the options, but others are okay.

Annie Bardell: Some activities are kind of fun and others aren’t.

Kole Dickinson: Yes, I like them all.

Q3: Do you wish we had another activity option instead of study hall?

Cami Focht: Yes.

Carena Eamigh: Yes.

Annie Bardell: Yes.

Kole Dickinson: No.

Q4: Do you have any suggestions for what we could so instead of or in addition to some activities we already have?

Cami Focht: I think yoga would be fun to do.

Carena Eamigh: I think having Home Ec would be fun.

Annie Bardell: Yes, I think a dance team would be fun, and it would be fun to have a writing time too.

Kole Dickinson: No.

Q5: Should we have a period where students do what we want?

Cami Focht: Yes, because some students would enjoy that more.

Carena Eamigh: Yes, because we work for around 6 hours at school and so I think we should have a choice of what we can do.

Annie Bardell: Yes, because some people don’t like to do certain things.

Kole Dickinson: No.

So there you have it; Even though students enjoy the activities that are currently offered, they would like to have more options in the future. Hopefully we can make that happen!
