Lingenfelter Slated to Speak at Commencement

1996 B-A Grad Now a Master Police Officer In VA

Doug Lingenfelter, a 1996 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School, will be the guest speaker at commencement this year on June 5.

Doug Lingenfelter, a 1996 graduate at BAHS, will be the commencement speaker at Bellwood-Antis’s graduation on June 5th.

“I am extremely flattered to have been asked to return ‘home’ and share in the commencement exercises,” Lingenfelter said.  “I will always consider Bellwood as my home, regardless of where I may live. This is a personal testament that I carry in my life and urge others in their professional development in that you should never forget where you came from.”

Lingenfelter graduated from Penn State in May 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice; he minored in History.

In July 2001 he graduated from the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy (FCCJA).  After graduation at FCCJA, Lingenfelter was assigned to Headquarters.  He worked in the Public Information Office.  He was a spokesperson for the department and prepared news releases.  He was the one to speak to the media concerning events. After the assignment, he returned to patrol.

He spent several years on the department’s Honor Guard.  He has also spent several years as a representative on the non-supervisory Equipment Team that presented suggestions to departmental command staff for improvements in issued equipment.  The Equipment Team also makes recommendations for new equipment purchases and policy review and change.

Lingenfelter has a VA state certification for advanced accident investigation as well as have certifications of advanced crime scene investigation.  He also has a VA state certification as a Law Enforcement Instructor through the Department of Criminal Justice Services.

November 2003 seemed to be a good time for Lingenfelter.  He was promoted to the rank of Police Officer First Class.  Then, in 2006, he was awarded “officer of the quarter” for the 2nd quarter.

Another good time in Lingenfelter’s life was in September 2011.  He was promoted to his current rank of Master Police Officer.  In September 2013, he became a member of Fairfax Lodge #43 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons where he received the degree of Master Mason.

Last year, in December 2013, Lingenfelter was awarded a departmental meritorious award for “Distinguished Field Training Instructor.”  He was also elected to the position of Junior Deacon in December 2013.

Even today, Lingenfelter is still assigned to the patrol division.  It enables him to continue to be a field training instructor.  He is responsible for the direct supervision and training of new officers who graduate the police academy and he completes evaluations based on their performances.

With 13 years in the department and on his squad, he is one of the senior members of the department.  He has trained over 20 new officers.  He is a member of the Fairfax County Police Association and Fairfax Coalition of Police, police union.
