The Someone Special Dance is coming soon.

Bellwood-Antis has decided to host the very first formal dance solely for the Special Education students sponsored by Key Club.

The Someone Special Dance gives these students who are not able to or do not usually attend other dances a chance to have one of their own that tends to their sensory needs.

“Paige Wenner came to me with the idea of the Someone Special Dance and it truly touched my heart. It’s so nice to see how much our students care about one another and are interested in creating an inclusive environment so that they can have shared experiences together,” said Special Education teacher Mrs. Molly Seese.

The dance will be held May 11, from 5-7 p.m. with a carnival theme, and the location is to be determined. There will be some games held, and tickets will be sold in April for $15 per student. Life skills students get in with no charge.

To address to all the student’s needs, the dance will not be open for all regular education students to attend so there is not an overwhelming crowd. Only the life skills students and their dates and then other students who the kids are already comfortable with will receive tickets. The student limit will be 30 altogether.

Parents of life skills students are welcome to attend to the dance for the last hour to experience this event with their child. The goal is to help the students feel comfortable, welcome, and not overwhelmed.

There will be fundraisers and donations open for this event, and a small percentage will be taken out for decorations and food. The larger percentage of donations will go to the Special Olympics.

Anybody who would like to help fundraise and decorate for the dance would be greatly appreciated and can contact Mrs. Seese.
