After Bellwood-Antis won their own Bellwood Invitational Monday of last week, they ended the week by winning the 70th annual West Central Coaches 2A meet, in Windber.

The Bellwood boys finished with 120 points to overtake Ligonier Valley and Portage.

It was the first victory for B-A at the West Central Coaches Meet since 2013.

“Our kids had a pretty good day,” said Coach Nick Lovrich.  “We showed a lot of team depth, with all of our relays placing high and getting two place winners in 5 events.”

Sophomore Joe Wertz, named outstanding thrower at Monday’s invitational, received two first places for the Blue Devils, winning the shot put and discus.

Bellwood also received victories from Dylan Wilson in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.02 seconds and Owen Shaulis in the triple jump.

The boys 400 and 1600 relays each finished second to Lignoier Valley, while the 3200 relay team took third.

Shawn Wolfe, meanwhile – a member of both the 400 and 1600 relays – placed second in the 100 and 200.

“Our goal at these big meets is to have our guys get PR’s in their events and that takes care of the team scoring,” said Coach Lovrich.  “This is the time of the year when you want to see your kids doing their best.  Hopefully the next couple of weeks that trend will continue.”

On the girls side, B-A got its best finishes from senior Jenna Bartlett, who claimed third in both the 1600 and 3200.

Riley D’Angelo was sixth in the 400, as was Haley Campbell in the 800. Kara Engle took seventh in the discus.

The Blue Devils are at Northern Bedford Monday for the ICC championships, with the district 6 meet set for next week.
