Travis Luensmann led the Blue Devils baseball team to victory in the first round District 6 2A playoffs yesterday as they took down Southern Huntington 4-1 in Three Springs.

It was a rematch of last season’s district 6 2A championship, which was won by the Rockets at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Southern went into the game yesterday with 17 wins and a No. 2 seeding.

The Devils advanced into the next round and take on Bishop Guilfoyle.

Southern Huntington took an early lead in the first inning, putting up one run, but the Devils bounced back in the second inning with 2 runs, and then scored runs in the next two innings.

Luensmann did the job for B-A on the hill, pitching all seven innings to record the victory. He allowed only five hits and fanned five to register his eighth victory of the season.

Troy Walker led the Devils with 3 hits and 1 RBI. Alex Schmooke had two hits.

John Kost, Nick Plank and Jack Luensmann also drove in runs.

The Devils improved to 13-7 and will now travel to face the No. 3 Marauders, with a trip to the District 6 championship game on the line.
