Fifth grade students show off the Blue Angels tree located in the middle school.

The Blue Angels program is a way that students and and staff in the BASD can help families in need during the holiday season. Along with the support of local companies and many volunteers, the Blue Angels have been helping families in the B-A community for 19 years!

Here’s how it works: Paper angels are placed on trees in all three schools. Each angel has one gift for a child in need written on it. If a person wants to be a part of this activity, all he/she has to do is grab an angel from the tree (Students need to get a parent’s permission) then buy whatever is written on the angel. After that, the gift should be brought to school  sometime before it’s due and the gift you got will be sent to a child in need this Christmas.

This year there were approximately six adults and 15-20 high school students who helped with the shopping and wrapping the gifts for 50 families and 30 foster children in the B-A community. These gifts have already been delivered to the recipients.

“We are so thankful for all the support we get and are happy to make Christmas a wonderful time for everyone,” stated 7th Grade Reading Teacher Mrs. Nycum, who assists with the program, which was founded by B-A alum Crystal Himes.

The Blue Angels program is a wonderful B-A tradition, one we hope continues for years to come!h
