Eighth grader Mackenzie Weber makes a healthy decision to stay hydrated.

Eating a balanced diet helps people maintain good health and reduce their risk of disease. According to National Public Radio, 75% of Americans say they eat healthy. So, I decided to ask a few BAMS students if they thought they have a balanced diet and see if the poll is correct. Here’s what I found out…

First, I interviewed 5th grader Brady Partner.

Q: Do you think that you have a balanced diet?

A: No, because I eat sugar. I like chocolate and I don’t eat good food.

Next, I interviewed 6th grader Grandin Lewis.

Q: Do you think that you have a balanced diet?

A: Yes, a few of the things I eat are fruits, salads, milk, water and vegetables.

After that, I interviewed 7th grader Ryan Marinak.

Q: Do you think that you have a balanced diet?

A: Yes, but I need to start eating healthy snacks. When I eat snacks I choose between healthy and unhealthy depending on what I’m feeling like. Sometimes when I get home from school I eat a granola bar.

Lastly, I interviewed 8th grader Kate Wallace.

Q: Do you think that you have a balanced diet?

A: Yeah, I eat healthy.

In conclusion, 75% of the students I interviewed said that they have a balanced diet, proving NPR’s statistic right. Next time you’re hungry, try to make a healthy choice in order to have a healthier life!u
