Junior Sophia Nelson is a midfielder for the Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis co-op girls soccer team. With three years of varsity experience, she is helping to lead a young team that is maturing every game.

She is the BluePrint’s Athlete of the Week.

Sophia has recorded 5 points – 2 goals, and 1 assist – through 10 games. However stats aren’t everything. Nelson is one of the captains for the Lady Eagles. Tyrone has for Nelson to be a leader for the team this year and she has delivered. Sophia plays hard and keeps her team focused.

“My goals for the team this season are to have a winning season and make it to districts,” said Nelson. “I want to push myself to my limits and do my best each and every game.”

Along with soccer, Sophia runs track in the spring and she’s a member of the Key Club and FCA at school.

The Lady Eagles have a 5-4-1 record with 7 games remaining. They’ll have to get on a roll to secure themselves a playoff spot and reach their goals. Their next game will be played Tuesday night at home against Clearfield.
