Today is National Kiss A Ginger Day. I know you may be wondering why I am writing about kissing a ginger but sometimes we have to take risks and figure out why this is a holiday.
Red hair has always been unique and striking to all of us. Many redheads are subject to jokes and mockery, we all love their fiery tresses. Today on January 12th 2021, it is Kiss A Ginger Day which is the perfect opportunity to show them some love.
At some point in our lives, we all wish we had red hair ourselves, but it occurs in only 2% of the population, we go for hair dyes to get the color.
Many people believe red hair is and has always been an Irish, British, and European trait, but that isn’t the case at all.
Ancient accounts and archaeological discoveries indicate red hair existed in Greece and Asia. Today the trait is most prevalent in north Western Europe. Red hair is slowly disappearing around the world, so kiss a ginger while you still can.
As crazy as this holiday sounds already, there are activities to kissing a ginger as well. Let’s see how this goes.
Do something nice for a red-head you love. You can send them flowers or even cook them a meal. You can give them a surprise weekend trip or even jewelry. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you let them know how much they mean to you.
Enjoy movies and music by famous gingers. Yes, this may sound weird but there are many celebrities and artists we love are gingers. Listen to the music of Ed Sheeran or Florence Welch of Florence and The Machine. Watch a movie or TV show featuring your favorite redhead, such as Lindsay Lohan, Amy Adams, or Christina Hendricks. Enjoy the films, music and art that gingers blessed us with.
Not only are there activities but there are reasons why we love kiss a ginger day. I did not think that this holiday could get more strange but let’s see what the reasons are shall we.
Redheads don’t go grey.
Red hair holds its pigment longer than other shades. When it does fade, it becomes a silvery white, not grey or dull.
Redheads seem to be far less common than blonde, brunette, and black hair. That’s because the gene which causes fiery locks is recessive, meaning you would need the gene from both parents for a child to have red hair. Today, people travel more than ever. This means gingers have become rarer than ever before and the percentage of people with red hair continues to decrease.
If you know a ginger, do something nice for them. No, not kiss them but do something nice for them to let them know that they’re special. If you are dating a ginger, enjoy today because it won’t happen until next year.
