Today bellwood will be holding the 77th annual BA Invitational. The BA Invitational was cancelled last year for only the fourth time due to the outbreak of Covid-19. The BA Invitational was last won by Bellwood and you know Coach Lovrich and his crew are trying to go back to back.
The Boys are trying to get a few big place winners from some of the athletes that have had success all year. Joe Wertz is the number one seed in both the shot put and the discus. Hunter Shawley is seeded 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles Zach Mallon is seeded 3rd in the triple jump and 2nd in the long jump. These athletes along with everyone competing are looking to have a big day.
The Blueprint got the chance to speak with head track coach Mr. Lovrich
The Blueprint: What does this year’s BA invitational mean to you and the team after not having one last year and returning as the defending champs?
Coach Lovrich: It is great that we are able to have the invitational this year. The kids are excited because for most of them this is their first one that they get to compete in. It should be a very competitive meet because there are a lot of really good teams coming today.
The girls track team will also be competing today in the invitational and they also are looking for success from some familiar place winners. Lydia Worthing in the high jump is seeded 3rd and Raven Criscitello seeded 4th in the triple jump.
Good Luck to both teams today. The boys will be trying to defend their title and the girls will be trying to get their first title since 2002.
