Both the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils and Tyrone Golden Eagles boys basketball teams opened their seasons Friday night at the Bellwood gymnasium. In sharp contrast to last year, multitudes of fans from both sides filled the gym in a 59-50 finish with Tyrone on top.

After B-A clung to a slight lead after the first quarter, 15-13, Tyrone’s defensive effort left the Devils with a total of 4 points in the second quarter and a 13-2 run from the Golden Eagles made the score 27-19  at the half.

The Blue Devils would never retake the lead as Tyrone extended it in the third before a comeback that came up too short in the fourth. Sean Mallon, who scored 19 points, netted 13 in the second half to pull B-A within 7 with time winding down, but the Devils were unable to get over the hump.

Caleb Beiswinger and Dawson Miller added 8 points apiece for the Blue Devils, who begin ICC play Monday on the road at Glendale.
