The Bellwood-Antis Scholastic team began with a serious start, going 4-0 in its first meet on Tuesday, defeating Tyrone, Northern Bedford, Williamsburg, and Bishop Guilfoyle.

The scrimmage takes place at the IU8 headquarters located in Altoona. Before playoffs, the team will continue to play two more rounds of regular season contests just in time to prepare for postseason.

Mrs. Kathy Taylor is back this year as the team’s coach. Team members include Briley Campbell, Vince Cacciotti, Chance Schreier, Holden Schreier, Derek Stiver, Ryan Marinak, Canyon Nyman, Shane Rachel, Seth Hollen, and Emily Zacker.

“It was nice to get off to a good start. We have several students with strengths in different areas that have participated for years,” Mrs. Taylor said.

While the team was happy to come away with 4 W’s, Mrs. Taylor said the hardest part of the schedule is yet to come.

“We have yet to go against our most difficult rivals: Altoona and Hollidaysburg, so we have some challenging meets in the future,” she said.

The team will play again on October 12, with a schedule that includes 5 meets. They will then compete in four matches on October 25, including what may be their toughest tests yet against Hollidaysburg and Altoona.

Should the team make it that far, the semifinals are in November.
