On April 12, the 7th and 8th grade Leadership Team got a once in a lifetime experience visiting Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The team toured several buildings of the facility, including one where NASA builds and tests satellites before they are launched into space. This trip gave the team members many experiences with science and exploration.

The Leadership Team’s challenge was to research information pertaining to Scott “Scooter” Altman and how the Five Stepping Stones to Success affect him and the members of the Leadership Team. Mr. Altman is a retired Navy pilot and astronaut. He was also the pilot of “Maverick’s” aircraft in the original Top Gun movie. Members of the team were excited to get to meet Mr. Altman and talk to him about his experiences.

By completing the Scott Altman Research Challenge the Leadership Team strengthened their teamwork and research skills. Special thanks to Rocco Scalzi, Dr. Wagner, The Board of School Directors, NASA, and the Beating the Odds Foundation for the amazing experience.
