Jarrett Taneyhill is known for his shot-blocking and rebounding.

If you’ve ever gone to a Blue Devil basketball game you’ve seen our big shot blocker, Jarret Taneyhill, but in school he just seems to be the quiet kid to those who don’t know him.

“He’s a nice, quiet kid.  He does what he’s told and he is fun to be around” said Senior Trenton Creppage.

Game after game the sophomore has amazing blocks.

Taneyhill is the Blueprint’s athlete of the week!

How did you get involved with basketball?

Jarrett: Playing with my dad and brother at home. Then signing up for leagues at the school and rec center.

What’s your favorite thing about basketball? Least favorite?

Jarrett: My favorite thing about basketball is that you can always contribute somehow. Even if you are not the best basketball player you can make up for it with heart and hustle. My least favorite thing would be tied between losing and the dreaded defensive slides at practice.

You practice every day of the week. How do you balance schoolwork and sports?

Jarrett: I just try to get my school work done in school using my free time and study halls.

What’s the most important thing you want to take from basketball?

Jarrett: I want to take away all the friends I’ve made over the years of playing basketball.

Do you have any advice for younger kids who want to play basketball?

Jarrett: I would tell them that basketball is a great sport and that hard work pays off.

You’re a big shot blocker, would you rather hit a 3 or block a shot?

Jarrett: The ideal situation would be blocking a shot off of the backboard, getting the ball after blocking it, and then dribbling the ball down the court and pulling up for a fast break 3. If I had to pick one, it’s my dream to hit a 3, so definitely that.

How hard is it being a 3 sport athlete?

Jarrett: It is very tiring at times but it is all worth it on game days

What do you say to people who think you’re quiet?

Jarrett: I’m quiet until I’m playing FIFA or when I am with friends.
