Travis J. Weller, the Director of Bands for the Mercer Area School District’s junior and senior high, was the guest conductor at the Blair County Junior High Band Festival.

On Tuesday February 10, the 2015 Blair County Junior High School Honor Band Festival was held at Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School.

The host director was Mr. Kris E. Laird.

The following students from Bellwood-Antis participated:

Kaitlyn Farber, and Alanna Vaglica on the flute; Morgan DeLozier and Brendan McCaulley on the clarinet; Alex Foose and Hannah Hornberger on alto sax; Dominic Tornatore on tenor sax.

Kyra Woomer played the French horn. Cassidy Shawley, Tylar Clemente, and Willie Williams played the trumpet.

Trombone players from B-A were Dominick Faith and Tanner Turnbaugh.

There were two Euphonium players from B-A: Shalee Bennett and Lara Hall. Hunter O’Shell played the tuba. Julie Bauer played percussion.

The guest conductor was Dr. Travis J. Weller from Mercer Area Middle-Senior High School. He has a Ph.D in Music from Kent State University. He also has a Master’s degree in Music education from Duquesne. Weller has also completed undergraduate work at Grove City College.

Bellwood-Antis director Patrick Sachse was very pleased with how county band went and how the students got to enjoy it.

“This festival was amazing. It was a chance for talented musicians to play in a bigger group, and work with a different conductor who is extremely talented. They were also able to collaborate with students from different schools,” said Mr. Sachse.
