The unified bocce teams from Bellwood-Antis and Tyrone met for the first time officially two weeks ago, initiating the first ever bocce Backyard Brawl. Tyrone won and was able to be the first recipient of a traveling trophy to award the winning school.
The coaches from both programs were thrilled with how their players performed as well as the attention the event was able to garner. Hosted at B-A, the school used the afternoon to bring the entire student body to the gym to watch the competition. Organizers from Tyrone said they would like to host the match next year.
Unified bocce is a Special Olympics sport that allows students with and without disabilities to play together. B-A started its bocce program in 2017-2018.
