The boys basketball team had a long season with struggles capitalized by inconsistency on offense. However, in their last few games they found some resurgence and their rhythm on offense. Thursday, the Blue Devils hosted Williamsburg in their final matchup of the year. An early surge set the tone for the Blue Devils the remainder of the game.
Bellwood Antis finished the season 2-20 after a 53-50 win.
The first quarter went back and forth on offense. The Pirates found some momentum and came out with a 15-12 advantage.
The Blue Devils then responded in the second. B-A registered 16 points and kept Williamsburg to just 11. The Blue Devils headed into the half with a 28-26 lead.
B-A was led by three double digit scorers. Holden Schreier picked up 16 points. Martin Fatzinger followed with 13 of his own, and Jackson Dorminy added 10 in the win.
“After struggling to get a win all year, winning two out of the last three felt rewarding for all of the work we had put in,” Schreier said.
The game remained tight out of the half. The Pirates and Blue Devils both combatted with 13 to bring the total to 41-39.
Williamsburg’s charge was lead by Evan Zehner with 14. Jesse Brumbaugh put up 10 for the Pirates.
B-A locked down the Pirates in the fourth limiting them to 11. The Blue Devils added 12 to their total that proved to be all the difference. This brought the game to a 53-50 final.
“It felt pretty good to finish strong,” Fatzinger stated. “We’re all excited for what’s to come next year.”
The boys finished their season strong with their second win. This brought their season total to 2-20.
