Tuesday is the second day of Read Across America week, and the English Department is continuing its theme days for each day of the week.
Today is Design Your Own Book Cover Day. Students choose a book and make a new cover that captures the essence of the book. This is a good way for students to express themselves and the things they like which allows them to engage in school activities.
All entries handed into the English department were eligible for prizes. The prizes are $25, $15, and $10 gift cards for Barnes & Nobles.
The first-place winner was senior Meghan Claar, who redesigned a cover for The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Second place was sophomore Phoebe Potter, for her redesign of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, and third was freshman Hannah Hornberger, who redid the cover for The Night Circus by Erin Morganstern.
This is the first year that Bellwood-Antis ran contest so it is something fresh and new for the year.
“We want to foster the love for reading and encourage students to connect with books in a variety of ways,” said English Department Chair Mr. Naylor. “So if kids can connect through other passions like art, all the better.”
