Junior Lily Gerwert had a career game in the District 6 2A consolation game, scoring 29 points and ripping 20 rebounds against Southern Huntingdon.
The Lady Blue Devils basketball team went against the Southern Huntingdon County Rockets in Orbisonia on Thursday night in the District 6 2A consolation game. At stake was a chance to qualify for the PIAA playoffs.
The final score of this game was 60-58, with B-A barely squeezing out a victory, but in consolation games all that matters is who won and lost.
B-A is in contention to make the state playoffs, and winning this game kept their hopes alive.
It was a very close matchup between these two teams. The biggest lead in the game was a 10-0 lead by Bellwood-Antis to start the game.
The standout player for the Lady Blue Devils was junior Lilly Gerwert. She recorded a double-double, with an incredible 29 points and 20 rebounds. Over half of Gerwert’s points were three-pointers, knocking down five of them in the game. Seniors Leigha Clapper and Jenna Norton also played a big part in the win. They both dropped 12 points each.
”I was hearing a lot of outside noise, that we weren’t going to win and nobody thought we would be where we were,” Gerwert said. “Everything I did was for my teammates, especially the seniors. We have worked too hard for it to be over then and there.”
On the other side of things, Southern Huntingdon did a good job of getting different players involved. Their top scorer was junior guard Caleigh Clark. Clark had a total of 14 points, including her two three-pointers. Other players for the Rockets such as senior Chloe Brown and senior Haley Ross both had 10 points.
Bellwood-Antis is moving on to play the Keystone Panthers in a PIAA tournament play-in game tomorrow. The winner of this will go on to the state playoffs.
The game will be played at Dubois Area Senior High School. It will start at 7.
