Unlike most science teachers, B-A teacher Mr. Andrew McClure has the opportunity to teach two different subjects: Science and American History.
“I wouldn’t choose any other class over science, but it has been really fun being able to teach American History as well this year, which was a first for me.” he said.
Originally from the Jayhawk State, he went to Smoky Valley High School and graduated in 2015, then went to the University of Kansas for his bachelor’s degree. He then went to Emporia State University in Kansas for his master’s. He eventually made his way to Pennsylvania due to his girlfriend coming to Penn State to get her master’s degree.
At first, he was thinking of becoming an engineer due to the influential teachers in his life, but he decided that he was more interested in teaching.
His students at B-A are grateful for his decision.
“He is a great teacher because he has fun in his class, but also still has us learning,” said Willa Guyer.
For Mr. McClure, Bellwood has been very welcoming due to the students and staff, and that’s what makes him love the B-A community.
Mr. McClure has been teaching for five full years, this being his sixth overall. He has a passion for teaching, especially where science is concerned.
“While I really enjoy being a teacher, it’s teaching science that gets me up in the morning,” he says.
His colleagues agree that he has been a great fit for the eighth-grade team since becoming a teacher in B-A.
“Mr. McClure has been a calming and friendly presence on the eighth-grade team. The students seem to genuinely look forward to going to his class,” said Mr. Baronner.
Outside of school, Mr. McClure likes to stay busy by cooking and baking, and getting outside when it’s nice out.
