Ethan Eckenroad is the epitome of what the television show The Voice stands for.
Hailing from small-town Roaring Spring, he’s the unknown artist given a shot to make it big.
Ethan was eliminated from the show Monday night after making it to the Team Playoffs, just one cut away from earning a spot on the lives shows. He had just sang “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron.
His wife, Savannah Eckenroad, works in the special education office at Myers Elementary School as an administrative assistant.
“I feel very excited and proud of him,” she said. “Music has always been his passion and receiving this opportunity is truly amazing.”
Ethan plays acoustic guitar primarily, but he can also play other instruments like electric guitar, piano, drums, ukulele, and the mandolin. He doesn’t have a band, but he does play music with some of his close friends.
He has played at a lot of businesses and was recently given a chance to play at the Mishler Theater this coming June.
All of the filming for the show occurred at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California. Savanah flew out to California with her daughter and her mother-in-law to watch his blind audition.
Savannah said she and Ethan first met when they were high school students at Northern Bedford. She graduated in 2015 and Ethan followed in 2016, but in their time together there they became high school sweethearts, partly through their interactions in the school chorus/music department.
Along with the show American Idol, The Voice is consistently one of the top-rated talent shows on television, which has afforded Ethan a level of fame that most local musicians don’t achieve.
Savannah said they are adjusting to the new change it has made. “We are so grateful for the support the community has shown us,” she said.
Ethan is currently the worship director at Hillside Church’s Juniata location while Savannah is on the worship team.
The BluePrint will have more extended coverage on this event soon.
