The Lady Devils continued their home stretch Thursday against Richland and were able to outlast the Rams in an 11-inning battle.
B-A picked up an 8-7 victory, winning in walk-off fashion for the second time this week. Freshman Abby Claybaugh knocked in the winning run.
“I was very excited to hit in the winning run for my team,” Abby said. “I had been in a hitting slump, so being able to hit that final run in for my team was a huge accomplishment.”
On Monday, fellow freshman Payton Koozer delivered a walk-off hit in B-A’s win over Central.
The Lady Devils advanced to 4-8 on the season while Richland fell to 7-7.
Palynn Greg went all 11 innings picking up the win while only allowing four earned runs and striking out 10.
B-A started the scoring in the second inning by putting up four. London McKee led the girls with three RBIs. Karlie Sweigert followed by driving in two more. Palynn Greg and Parker Martin both doubled and had multiple hits in the game.
Richland ultimately pieced together four by responding in the third with three runs and tying the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh.
Sophie Burke came up big for Richland offense adding a three run homer. Elle Ladika knocked in two runs on one hit for the Rams. Addy Matejovich added three hits to her total.
Pitching silenced both teams offense until the tenth. In the top of the inning, the Rams bats came alive putting up three on the board bringing the total to 7-4. B-A quickly responded in the bottom half tying it at seven all.
The Rams went quiet in the eleventh leaving the door open for the Lady Devils. Abby then came through in the bottom of the inning, hitting a walk-off base hit to solidify the game at 8-7.
Claybaugh had three hits while scoring and knocking in a run.
B-A has not won two in a row and is playing with confidence. Abby said the key has been her team’s resilience.
“We all fight until the end and continue to cheer each other on,” she said.
The girls stay at home next Tuesday against Bishop Guilfoyle. The Marauders are currently 1-9 on the season providing a strong opportunity for the Lady Devils to win three of their last four.
