When you think of all the work the goes into a high school career – all the little assignments, the projects, the essays, the tests – its hard to imagine two people taking the same classes earning the same grade over 4 years.
But that’s exactly what happened with this year’s Salutatorians.
Thew role of Salutatorian is the student with the second highest grade per average (GPA) in their class at graduation. For the Class of 2025, two people tied for that role: Jenna Norton and Holden Schreier.
“Holden and Jenna have been back and forth in class rank since they started high school,” high school Principal Mr. Richard Schreier said. “It didn’t surprise me that this decision came down to the final marking period, and if you know them, they are still competing to see if one of them can break the tied GPA at the end of the year.”
Commencement for the Class of 2025 will take place May 3o. Jacob Caracciolo is the Valedictorian, while 2009 grad Sarah Garber will be the guest speaker.
Each student acknowledged the impact of earning a title like Salutatorian.
“Being salutatorian means a lot to me because it shows that my hard work is being recognized,” said Holden
Jenna said she was excited for commencement and the chance to address her classmates.
“It’s very rewarding to have your hard work recognized,” she said.
Both students are very active at school in student life and athletics. Holden is a three-sport athlete while Jenna has lettered on the basketball team since she was a freshman.
Jenna and Holden both said they don’t mind that they are sharing the title of salutatorian.
Jenna’s goal for high school was perform well in the classroom and be involved, which led her to taking challenging classes and working hard to keep her grades up.
Holden’s said being Salutatorian was never a goal but that he “just always tried to put my best effort in and see where that got me.”
