In day two of the District 6 championships on Thursday at Mansion Park, multiple athletes found success and qualified for the state championships in Shippensburg.
On the boys side, senior Holden Schreier was the lone qualifier for the PIAA championship meet next week. He finished third in the 400 and the top 3 place-winners in each event qualify.
Holden said he had plenty of people to thank for making it this far.
“It feels good to qualify because my hard work all year has paid off,” he said. “I couldn’t have made it without everyone pushing me and supporting me.”
“It was great for Holden to cap his high school career with a trip to states,” said B-A track and field coach Nick Lovrich. “His will to win helped propel him at the end of the race to find that extra gear and beat a couple kids to get that third place spot.”
The boys finished 14th overall, but Coach Lovrich said with a young team the experience was a positive one.
“It would have been nice to get some more people to states, but we are a relatively young team with a lot of good kids coming back next year. It was exciting to see our progress as a team throughout the year,” he said.
The PIAA meet takes place next Friday and Saturday, May 23 and 24, at Shippensburg University.
In other District 6 finishes:
Freshman Ella Cherry paved her way to states in four events and was one of two B-A athletes to win a District 6 title. “I can say that I wasn’t expecting it, but it’s exciting qualifying for states in every event,” Ella said.
