Both the B-A boys and girls cross country teams ran their final home and regular season meet Wednesday. Each squad beat Portage but fell to Forest Hills. Richland also ran at the meet, but Bellwood had already run against them so the scores against them didn’t count.
Along with it being the final home meet, the Lady Devils and Blue Devils teams celebrated Senior Day. It was also a Pink Out game and PIAA Official Apparition Week, with Officer Mercer presenting a speech and a certificate of appreciation to official Ashley Shook.
Senior Day recognition paid tribute to first-year seniors Bryce Hollenbach and Lucas Fulmer; second-year senior Luke Gurekovich; and four-year seniors Martin Fatzinger, Collin Matthews, Cameron Gallagher and Chloe Stoltzfus. All seniors were presented with a bag of gifts.
Hollenbach, who transferred to B-A this year, took first for the boys with a time of 18:06, Athlete of the Week Martin Fatzinger continued his great senior season with an 18:39. Rounding out the top 7 for BA was Gallagher (19:34), Dom Halerz (19:54), Hunter Shura, (20:23), Gurekovich (20:48) and Johnny Bickel (21:05).
On the girls side, junior Blake Pennington was third overall with a time of 21:23. Classmate Julie Kraft was seventh with 22:10 and Peyton Hammond took ninth in 22:58.
The boys and girls both saw their records jump to 10-5. They are looking to continue their very successful seasons at the LHAC Championships and Districts.
