The Bellwood-Antis boys basketball team lost for the first time this season Tuesday, falling to Hollidaysburg 67-53 in the championship of the Northern Blair County Kiwanis Holiday Basketball Tournament at Tyrone Area High School.
The Blue Devils scored 10 unanswered points in the first quarter to go up 10-4 and led 18-11 after one.
Nathan Davis scored 14 in the first quarter and finished the half with 22 as the Blue Devils took a 36-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Davis’s only basket of the second half came with time winding down in the third quarter when he hit a deep three-pointer to keep the Devils in the lead 46-41.
But in the fourth quarter, tournament MVP Ryan Adams took over. He had 21 of his 30 in the second half, and his three-pointer midway through the fourth sparked an 11-3 run to give the Tigers the lead. Adams had nine during the surge and Hollidaysburg never looked back.
Davis, who scored 50 points in the tournament, was named to the all-tournament team, along with Jarrett Taneyhill, who scored 23 in a first-round win over Penn Cambria. Trent Walker added 10 against the Tigers.
B-A made it to the finals by defeating the Panthers 71-65 on Monday. Davis scored 25 in a frenetic game the Devils led by 18 in the third quarter before the Panthers cut the lead to a single basket late.
Now 6-1, Bellwood-Antis will play at Williamsburg January 4.
