The Bellwood-Antis softball team took down Claysburg-Kimmel 2-0 in their closest game this season.

Taylor Shildt pitched a two hit shutout in the girls’ ICC victory yesterday improving their record to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the league.

The Bulldogs held B-A to just four hits, but two first inning runs were enough for the Blue Devils to bring home the win. Taylor Shildt, Ashton Payne, Edyn Convery and Saige McElwain each had a hit for B-A with Convery and McElwain having an RBI apiece.

Convery saw a silver lining in the outcome of the game, which saw B-A go scoreless over the last six innings after jumping to a 2-0 lead in the first.

“Games like this can help to keep us humble,” she said. “It’s only our third game this year that went all seven innings.”

Both Convery and senior Caroline Showalter felt the hitting was good, but he Lady Dawg’s had B-A’s batters played perfectly.

“We were hitting the ball, but it was going right to their (Claysburg’s) gloves,” said Caroline Showalter.

“It’s not that we weren’t hitting the ball. They were just making plays,” said Convery.

The Blue Devils next game is Thursday when they host West Branch.

The Bellwood-Antis boys’ baseball was also in action yesterday when they traveled to Claysburg-Kimmel, where they lost 7-1.

The game was tied 0-0 after 4 innings, but Claysburg pulled away with three and four runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

The Blue Devils have been very inconsistent this year, either playing very well and 10-run ruling teams or struggling to score runs and getting blown out themselves.

Yesterday, marked the fourth time this season that Bellwood has been held to one hit, which was from Joey Padula.

“It was a tough loss and we fell short,” said Padula.  “We will need to rebound Wednesday against West Branch.”

The team’s record dropped to 5-4 on the year, and they will look to get back on track against West Branch tomorrow.
