The Bellwood-Antis baseball team’s five-game win streak was snapped on Saturday when Bald Eagle Area bested them 2-0 in Wingate.

Sawyer Kline was on the mound for the Blue Devils and only gave up three hits in the loss, with only one of the runs charged to him being earned.

“Sawyer did a good job pitching but we couldn’t help him out and get a hit,” said Jack Showalter.

Nevin Wood broke up the no-hitter for Bald Eagle in the top of the sixth inning with an infield hit.

The Blue Devils had a strong game defensively turning three double plays and only allowing the 11-5 Eagles to score in one inning.

Coach Steve Conlon was pleased that his team played a solid game against a quality opponent.

“I was pleased that we were able to compete with a good team. Our pitching and defense kept the game close,” he said.  “It was a good gauge for us to see how we stack up with one of the top programs in AA.”

The Blue Devils’ record fell to 11-7 and they will be back in action this Thursday when they travel to Everett.
