The reasons the children aren’t the problem
There is nothing surprising about this. There is nothing out of the ordinary. There is nothing that seems to be working. There is nothing that can be fixed with a single law. There is nothing that can be done until you look into the actual causes of school shooting. Even though no one can pinpoint an accurate reason on why school shootings are becoming the new norm, it is quite obvious that there are some reasons. Some reasons that no one shines light on because people claim it’s all about the guns. However, the problem is much larger than guns and is more of a generational and school problem than a gun one.
Many people blame this issue on guns, however that is not the issue. The real problem is the mental state of the youth. Social behavior shown in the realm of social media is the root of the problems. Reality TV shows and social media portray a false sense of acceptable social behavior. Problems stem from platforms like this. It’s not the youths’ fault; it the fault of the generation before. They allow them to view uncensored media, which provokes a harmful mind. The “wiser” older generation feeds the youth things to dement and distort their growing minds. A common fault of recent school shooters is that the shooters have all been depressed and the rise social media is causing this. The older generations are causing the youth to become like this, and yet they don’t take the time to blame themselves and fix it. They blame the youth; however it is just how they raised them. Along with this problem, another one arises.
Schools, especially Bellwood-Antis, do not have enough counseling for those with mental health issues. There is so much work for counselors to do right now with scheduling that students’ mental health gets looked over. The social workers at schools, like at Bellwood-Antis, are having a problem keeping up their work. Common sense tells you that schools should hire more of these social workers and counselors; however they are doing the exact opposite. They are firing the people that are here to help student’s mental health. Not only that but the social workers here at the school are not reaching out enough and aren’t providing enough support to students to begin with. They claim that they are too busy, but the kids that need help are getting overlooked. Schools are wondering why there are school shooters, but they need to step back and realize that they are the ones actually creating them.
In order to order to fix such a problem there needs to be emphasis on core values rather than false persona in means of making monetary gain. The problem has been one looming greatly over us as we watch the rise of social media. The older generation continues to feed the youth terrible things that destroy the youths’ mental state and then they wonder why this is all happening. Furthermore, reality TV shows need not to focus on false reality and false personas but rather real life and what it actually means to be a human. If these measures fail, however, the school needs to better support their students mental health. If the schools are not going to treat the mental health of their students, a long battle will persist between school shooters and schools as long as time will tell.
The schools and the older generation are to blame for school shootings. They are the problem. They claim they want to stop it, but all they seem to do is promote it. The school does it by not having enough social workers to combat what the older generation does to the youth’s mental health. If change is wanted then these two entities need to realize all the harm they are doing. They need to prioritize the youths ‘mental health in order to fix the issue of school shootings.
