One last look at Shrek the Musical

Although Shrek The Musical closed Saturday, there are still plenty of people who should be recognized for their success. In the week’s leading up to the production, the BluePrint ran a series of Q and A interviews with members of the cast. Here are the ones that weren’t able to be published before Shrek’s 3-day run last week.

The Bellwood- Antis music department performed Shrek the Musical on March 27,28 and 29. The BluePrint highlighted cast and crew members in the days leading up to the raising of the curtains.
The play is based in the hit movie Shrek. It follows the tale of the ogre Shrek, who goes on a life-changing journey alongside a wise- cracking donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue.
The play was directed by Molly Burns. Mr. Logue was the music director while Mr. Sachse was the orchestra director.
The Blueprint featured members of the cast. Today we focus on Eric Johnson who plays Mad Hatter/Bishop.
Blueprint: What role do you play?
Eric: Mad Hatter/Bishop.
Blueprint: How long have you been in the musical?
Eric: 2nd musical.
Blueprint: What are you looking forward most to?
Eric: The show night to show our hardwork paid off.
Blueprint: What makes you want to join the musical?
Eric: Meeting new friends and working as a team.
Blueprint: did you enjoy Shrek before the musical?
Eric: I did not know very much about Shrek.
Blueprint: Who is your favorite character in the musical and why?
Eric: Lord Farquaad because of his jokes.
Blueprint: What is your biggest challenge with the musical?
Eric: Learning multiple Dances
Blueprint: What is the best thing about being in the musical to you?
Eric: I like running the show during practice because it is cool to see the show put together.
Blueprint: Who helped you the most throughout getting the musical set up?
Eric: Mr. Logue with music, Molly with dancing, and Mara Guirard with making sure backstage is organized.
Blueprint: What would you tell people who are interested in joining the musical?
Eric: Join the musical to meet new people.

Blueprint: What role do you play?
Colin : Pinocchio.
Blueprint: How long have you been in the musical?
Colin: 2 years.
Blueprint: What are you looking forward most to?
Colin: Seeing all of our hard work pay off.
Blueprint: What makes you want to join the musical?
Colin: I love music and acting in a passion of mine.
Blueprint: did you enjoy Shrek before the musical?
Colin: Yes!
Blueprint: Who is your favorite character in the musical and why?
Colin: Either Shrek or Donkey, they have some funny lines.
Blueprint: What is your biggest challenge with the musical?
Colin: being able to balance school, track and work.
Blueprint: What is the best thing about being in the musical to you?
Colin: Making life long bonds with people.
Blueprint: Who helped you the most throughout getting the musical set up?
Colin: Molly and Mr. Logue really helped me, but hug, Alyssa, Gigi and Jacob helped me as well.
Blueprint: What would you tell people who are interested in joining the musical?
Definitely! Its a really good time and you will definitely have a fun time!

Blueprint: What role do you play in the musical?
Alyssa: Gingy
Did you enjoy Shrek before the musical?
Alyssa: I actually never watched Shrek the movie or the musical until after the cast list came out.
Blueprint: Who is your favorite character in the musical and why?
Alyssa: Lord Farquaad because it’s just such a funny and amazing character and Derek does so well with it.
Blueprint: What is your biggest challenge with the musical?
Alyssa: My biggest challenges have been working with the puppet and having confidence singing.
Blueprint: What is the best thing about being in the musical to you?
Alyssa: The best part about the musical is the other people in it. I feel like I’ve Found my people and I can really be myself without being judged.
Blueprint: Who has helped you the most throughout getting the musical set up?
Alyssa: Our Stage Manager Mara has worked with me on my Gingy voice and the singing part so I would say she has helped me the most.
Blueprint: What would you tell people who are interested in joining the musical?
Alyssa: Just do it. You never know if you’ll enjoy it or not but in the end it is worth it. One of my biggest regrets is not doing it sooner.
Blueprint: How long have you been in the musical?
Alyssa: This is my first year.
Blueprint: What are you looking forward to?
Alyssa: Preforming for the first time with my friends.
Blueprint: What makes you want to join the musical?
Alyssa: I was too nervous to audition at first but Gigi encouraged me to do it because it was a lot of fun.

The BluePrint featured cast members from the play. Today’s focus is on Tristan Riva, who plays several different roles.
Riva has been in the musical cast since 6th grade. His first musical he was a part of was Beauty and the Beast.
In Shrek, people know about Shrek and Donkey or Fiona, but Tristin played the role of Papa Bear/Papa Shrek. He said that he joined the musical so he could spend time with friends, His mother, Molly Burns is the director, and she has directed Shrek before. Tristan said he has always loved the movie Shrek.
Tristin was most excited about the party after the musical and he said that his favorite character in Shrek is Donkey because he is comedic relief.
It’s pretty hard to prepare for this big of a musical and Tristan said that it has been the biggest challenge, combined with doing homework and lifting and other activities with the musical going on.
He said the best thing about the musical was hanging out with friends and that his mom has helped him the most throughout the show.
