B-A Athletes Punch Ticket to Shipp Before Rains Fall
Crook, Boys 3200 Relay Team Win Titles; Meet to Resume Today
Even though the rain poured, some Blue Devils reigned supreme yesterday at the District 6-AA track and field championship meet.
The meet was postponed to today after a severe thunder and lightning storm, but not before several B-A athletes punched their tickets to Shippensburg for the PIAA championships.
The Blue Devils kicked off things off by finishing first in the 4X800meter relay run with a squad that included Alex Bartlett, Noah D’Angelo, Kyler Lardieri, and Aaron Mogle.
Mr. Lovrich praised the 4X800 meter relay team.
“We were competitive from the beginning. That was a key if we wanted to be top 3,” he said. “The first three runners were so good, by the time it got to Alex the lead was so big, we knew Alex could finish it. He’s been a good anchor all season.”
Ellen Crook won yet another event, placing first in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:13, a personal-best by two seconds.
She along with Alex Bartlett were named Blair County Track and Field Officials Outstanding Performers.
Ellen doesn’t win without some kind of strategy.
“The girl seeded in front of me was seeded ahead of me by point-two seconds. So I planned to follow her, but she followed me. I let her catch up and pass me. Then I waited until 200 meters left and I kicked,” she said.
Nick Torsell finished second in the javelin with a throw of 165-11 and advanced to the PIAA meet.
Matt McMillan finished third in the 300 meter hurdles to qualify for states. He also finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles.
Bailey Swogger finished third in the 100 meter dash, earning her a trip to Shippensburg.
The meet resumes today at 4 p.m.
