Blue Devils use big plays to rally past Southern Huntingdon

Wood runs for 100 again; Lardieri scores twice

Last Friday, the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devil football team traveled to Southern Huntington.  Being away from home for the first time in a while didn’t change how the boys played, with B-A taking a 42-14 win that was harder than it sounds.

B-A is now 5-2.

Bellwood-Antis trailed by a touchdown in the second quarter, but used big plays to turn the tide.

In the first quarter, senior Matt McMillan had a 2-yard run for a score and the extra-point from Trenton Creppage made the score 7-0.

In the second quarter, senior Cameron Wood pulled off a 7-yard run.

The third quarter, senior Kyler Lardieri had a 55 yard punt return to give B-A the lead, and Wood had a 3-yard and a 63 yard touchdown runs.

“The big plays were really important since we started slow,” said Lardieri.  “We needed something to jumpstart us.  We got that first ig play and just turned it on from there.”

Wood finished the game with 199 yards rushing on 16 carries, while Lardieri 21 yards rushing and 89 yards receiving.

In the fourth quarter, Lardieri scored his second on a 25 yard run.

Linebacker Zack Mock said it was important for the defense to play better after allowing 14 points in the first half.

“We figured out they were running the same play over and over,” said Mock.  “They kept running counters and that gave us problems.  We realized what they were doing and made the adjustments to stop it.”

The Blue Devils travel to Northern Bedford Friday.
