Brinkman and Eckenrod find success at District Band
Last week, Madison Brinkman, a senior band member, and Abigail Eckenrod, a junior, traveled to the PMEA District 6 band festival.
Both musicians played well enough to qualify for Regional Band.
Abby plays the flute and has been playing for over 8 years. Her biggest inspiration is, of course, B-A band director Mr. Patrick Sachse and Lavri Mohler, her flute teacher.
Abby believes that being able to attend Districts was a great privilege and she worked very hard with her flute teachers to practice beforehand.
“It is a privilege being able to attend,” says Abby. “You’re able to work with extremely talented musicians from all over the place to create some quality music!”
Madison also had a regional worthy performance, even landing first chair. Madison plays the trumpet and has been playing for 9 years, with Mr. Sachse being one of her biggest mentors, along with her dad, who played trumpet in high school and even went to all eastern band.
During District band, students worked with a guest conductor, Dr. Martin from West Chester University, to help improve their performances and skills. Districts showed the musicians that the hard work they put into their music is getting recognized and that people really do like their music.
Madison believes this was her best experience at a festival yet. She had a lot of fun, as well as learning how to better herself as a musician.
“I enjoyed it very much and hope every musician gets an experience like it,” Madison said. “You make amazing music with friends, and it’s such a fun experience.”
Congratulations musicians!! Good luck at regionals!
