Athlete of the Week: Kole Dickinson
May 4, 2023
After he enjoyed a championship performance at one of the area’s top invitationals, the BluePrint’s Athlete of The Week is junior hurdler Kole Dickinson
Kole takes part in the 4×400 relay, high jump, but most importantly the 110 and 300 hurdles, with his favorite being the 110 hurdles.
He also participates in basketball during the winter season, and is on the boys varsity team.
Kole has been putting together a very impressive season for a B-A hurdler. Although he is only a junior, he has been dominating the competition.
For just a small example of his incredible performance so far this season, this past Monday at the Bellwood Invitational, Kole entered the 110 hurdles seeded 6th but ended up placing 1st out of 22 total runners with a PR time of 16:02.
“This season has been going a lot better than expected” said Kole. “I’m beyond happy with how much I’ve improved just from last season”
Kole is dreaming big while trying his hardest to place at Districts this year, and hopefully make it to states. “Whether it’s this season or next, states is obviously the main goal,” Kole stated.
Kole said he drew most of his motivation from personal elements in his life, including his coach.
“My family and teammates are the ones that keep me motivated to keep getting better as they cheer me on at every meet” explained Kole, “And of course Mr. Lovrich’s pre-meet speeches also motivate me to try and PR.”
For his part, Mr. Lovrich has been impressed with how quickly Kole has made strides as both a track athlete in general and a hurdler in partcular.
“Kole has been really having a good year so far. This is only his 2nd year in track and he has progressed very quickly in the hurdles,” Coach Lovrich said. “Hopefully he will continue to get his times down as we get closer to Districts.
The future is looking bright for Kole as he continues to dominate.
