Bellwood Antis Middle School is lucky to have Mr. Mercer! He spends his days keeping students and teachers safe. In the morning, Mr. Mercer gets to school around 7:00 am. He first checks the computers and video cameras followed by a sweep of the school to make sure everything is safe. Then, either he or another security guard directs the traffic of the high schoolers getting to school while the other guard takes the job of greeting students as they roll in. After all students are in the school, he and his fellow security guards make sure all doors are locked in the middle and high school. Then Mr. Mercer goes down to Myers and prepares the school for the kids to arrive. After all the students arrive at the elementary school, one security guard stays at the elementary and one stays at the middle and high school. Mr. Mercer walks the halls, checks the cameras, and responds to any incidents. Some days he is asked to come into classrooms and speak. “No two days are alike,” Mr. Mercer stated. Everyday must be exciting! After his long day at work Mr. Mercer enjoys spending time with his grandson and wife, as well as hiking, hunting, and camping. Mr. Mercer shared, “I think Bellwood has the greatest students of any school.”
