The Bellwood-Antis School District was forced to close its doors Wednesday and send students home early after days of heavy rainfall caused flooding in several key areas of the district.
Teachers were notified shortly before 10 a.m. that students would be leaving before lunches. High school and middle school students were dismissed at 11 and Myers students went home at 11:45. The official statement released by the district said the dismissal was “due to ongoing rain and travel conditions.”
Much of Blair County, including most areas in proximity to the Juniata River, spent most of Wednesday on a flood watch, which is scheduled to last into Thursday.
The rains began Sunday and are expected to drop as much as three more inches of precipitation on the county by Thursday.
Along with suspending classes, the district announced that all after school activities were postponed, including B-A’s track and field meet against Hollidaysburg, which had already been postponed from yesterday due to rain.
Nearby Tyrone Area also closed for rain this morning.
