Dalton Poorman lands with the first place triple jump at Monday’s Bellwood-Antis Invitational.

Monday night the 80th annual Bellwood-Antis Invitational took place at the Julia Roseborough Track at B-A’s Memorial Stadium.

The meet hosted 16 schools from Blair, Huntingdon, and Cambria county.

“It’s the big kickoff. The B-A invitational always has good competition and it prepares us for the rest of the invitationals,” said Coach Lovrich.

Bellwood’s boys came in 4th place and the Bellwood girls came in 7th. Bellwood-Antis placed in 17 different events and were led by seniors Kole Dickinson and Dalton Poorman. Dickinson took first in both hurdle events and Poorman came out on top in the triple jump and second in the pole vault. Dickinson set a personal record in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.58 and Poorman set a personal record in the triple jump with a distance of 40’3″.

Some results were delayed for a day after complications with the placing system, but the confusion was cleared up within 24 hours.

“Overall it went well for the boys. We finished top four, behind Tyrone by .5 and had a lot of place winners in all the different events,” said Coach Lovrich.

Other notable placers were Chance Schreier, Avah Hassler, and Cayden Pellegrine who brought home 3rd place finishes in their respective events.

Dickinson was pleased with his results. “It feels good because most of these people I’ll see at Districts,” he said.

Dickinson was unable to place at last years District 6 AA Championship, but this year he expects different results. “I focused more on technique, speed, and endurance this offseason. Also I really worked on getting out of the blocks. My goal this year is to place top 3 at Districts, which will qualify me for states,” said Dickinson.

“Kole had a good 300 meter hurdle time and took 1st against really good competition. Sometimes people worry about the competition, but Kole just focused on the 8 hurdles or the 10 hurdles in front of him during his events,” said Coach Lovrich.

Poorman was also happy with his performance. “It was amazing, it was the perfect time to PR,” said Poorman.

Last year Poorman came 11th in the pole vault and 14th in the triple jump at the District 6 AA Championship and he is looking to improve. “I want to get better at every meet and place at districts this year,” said Poorman.

The track team will travel to Altoona for the Mt. Lion Classic on Friday and then will attend the LHAC Championship next week. “The LHAC Championship will have 21 different schools that are all really solid. If you win the at the LHAC Championship you have a great chance to win at districts,” Coach Lovrich said.
