On Wednesday night, the Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis girls varsity soccer team faced off against Huntingdon at home. The girls lost in a close game, with the match ending 3-2.
The Lady Eagles continued their winless streak and are still in search of their first victory of 2024. Their record is currently 0-5-1 after the loss, while Huntingdon’s record improved to 4-2.
This was a back and forth battle by both teams, where at one point in the game it was tied at 2-2.
Senior Briley Campbell scored the second of the team’s goals after Cadence Berry had staked the Lady Eagles to a 1-0 lead with their first tally.
“Huntingdon held a very high back line, and my teammate Liv Newlin saw that,” Campbell explained on her goal. “She sent me a perfect ball through them and I was able to run on it, beat the keeper, and send it in.”
Since the Lady Eagles still have a winless record, there are many things that they can improve on to possibly turn their season around, Campbell said.
“I think that our team needs to try to work on our possession so we can control games,” Campbell said. “I think we need to play simple and continue to let the ball do the work, and I’m confident that more chances will come.”
The girls will have their next game on Saturday morning at Philipsburg-Osceola. The game will start at 10.
