This week’s BluePrint athlete of the week is Bradyn Partner.
Bradyn Partner is a sophomore quarterback and defensive back. However, due to an injury bug plaguing the running back room for the B-A football team, Bradyn has been forced to step up as the premiere back for the season.
Bradyn currently has 36 carries for 261 yards so far on the season. He is the second leading rusher on the team, behind junior running back Collin Gibbons. Bradyn also has the second most rushing touchdowns on the year
Following the injuries to the running backs Alex McCartney and Chase Plummer, BA needed someone to step up, and Bradyn did so, despite switching from his natural position of quarterback.
“It’s definitely huge,” said Coach Nick Lovrich. “Bradyn has been practicing quarterback for the last two years. To see him step up in stride and be able to carry the ball is huge for us. He’s getting good lead blocks from #20 and the whole committee is doing a great job this year.”
Bradyn also makes contributions on the defensive side of the ball. Bradyn is the starting cornerback and occasionally plays outside linebacker, as well. So far on the season Bradyn has 19 tackles and three of them have been for loss. Bradyn also spends most of his time shadowing the opposing team’s number one receiver.
Bradyn said he wasn’t planning on being featured so prominently when the Devils have the football.
“No, I definitely did not expect being this involved in the offense. However, due to injuries I had to step up and play a more important role than I expected,” he said.
Last week, Bradyn ran for more than 100 yards and scored a touchdown in B-A’s first loss to Central. He will try to help lead the Devils back into the victory column this week when B-A host arch-rival Tyrone in the Backyard Brawl.
Outside of football, Bradyn is also on the baseball team. This season is a big one for Bradyn as he is primed for major contributions on varsity this year.
