Bellwood-Antis is hoping to get one more win under their belt Friday after clinching a playoff spot last week. The Blue Devils will travel to Johnstown to face the Bishop McCort Crushers in their last regular season game.
It’s a Laurel Highlands Conference crossover game. In the crossover championship, East winner Bishop Guilfoyle faces West winner Penn Cambria for the overall league crown.
By Week 10, B-A fans know what to expect out of their players. Senior quarterback Holden Schreier is once again expected to sling some more touchdown passes to main target Cayden Pellegrine. The senior wide receiver and tight end has tallied over 320 receiving yards this season, accounting for 3 touchdowns. Junior Colin Gibbons will be doing most of the running for Bellwood-Antis. We’ve seen him put in work all season, averaging 68 yards per game, and fans shouldn’t expect anything less out of him Friday night.
For Bishop McCort, junior Angelo Galluci will be handling the throwing. He has put up decent numbers this year, with a 55% completion rate and 566 total passing yards. The Crushers rely on Jon Delia for their run game. He has 595 rushing yards on the season, leading the team.
“Success starts up front with our defensive line,” said Blue Devil Nick Lovrich. “We have some strong and quick kids there that create havoc up front. Our secondary does a good job of coming up and making plays. It’s a total team effort.”
It’s been a tough road for McCort, which is currently ranked No. 6 in District 6 2A. After starting the season 1-3, the Crushers went on to win five in a row before putting up a good fight last week in a loss to Penn Cambria. The Devils, meanwhile, started 5-1 before hitting a rough patch with losses in Week 7 and 8. But B-A rebounded last week with a big win over Bald Eagle Area.
Both teams have shown impressive numbers in their respective strong suits. It will definitely be interesting to see who comes out on top this week.
