Are you a dancer grade 7-12 who is looking for a fun activity to show off your love for dance? Well, you’re in luck because in May, Bellwood-Antis will be kicking off the start to their new dance team!
Seventh grade teacher, Miss Poplin, herself a serious dancer in high school as a student at Andrea’s, has decided to bring a dance team to Bellwood so more students can have opportunities to participate in school activities that they love.
The dance team will perform during Bellwood varsity football games and pep rallies, taking the place of the flags.
Miss Poplin says that that she is very excited to coach the dance team.
“It’s a great opportunity to connect with students outside the classroom and share my love for dance with them,” she said.
Poplin says that growing up, dancing at Andrea’s, she was never involved in school activities, so she hopes that adding a dance team at Bellwood will allow students to participate in school activities that they love.
“I remember a teacher telling me that I needed to be more involved in school activities, but I felt that there wasn’t much for me at school,” said Ms. Poplin, who graduated from B-A in 2015.
“I would like to see more activities created for students so that all students feel like they have a place in the school community,” she added.
It doesn’t matter if you are a competitive dancer, recreational dancer, or even if you don’t have any dance experience, you can still join the team, Ms. Poplin said.
The team will hold tryouts, and while no exact date has been established yet Ms. Poplin said it will be sometime in April.
“I am looking for a team that is willing to work hard, have fun, support each other and our school,” she said.
For anyone who wants to join the dance team, Miss Poplin encourages you, if you have any interest in joining, to come to try outs!
