Thursday night, the Altoona Mirror Basketball Classic will take place. Three of our very own Bellwood-Antis basketball players will play in this honorary all-star game held at Penn State Altoona.
The contest features the top senior players from Blair County taking on the top senior players from the remainder of the Altoona Mirror coverage area.
Leigha Clapper and Jenna Norton will take the court for the girls, and Holden Schreier will represent the boys.
All three of these athletes found success this year in their own ways. The girls ended their season with a 14-13 record and made it into the third round of playoffs. Clapper led the team in assists and scored 8.6 points per game, while Norton took the reins on defense with 41 steals while adding 7.0 points per game..
Head Coach Kylie Longo is extremely proud of her players.
“They were strong assets to the Bellwood-Antis Lady Blue Devil basketball program,” said Longo. “Their leadership will be missed.”
Though the boys team did not find as much success this year as a whole, Schreier stepped up to play a big leadership role. He set a career high this year, scoring 30 points in a single game. He ended the season averaging 9.1 points per game after battling back from a foot injury that had him sidelined up until Christmas.
“It’s an honor to be selected to the game, as the hard work I’ve put in has been noticed and is paid off,” said Schreier.
The game will be played at the Steven A. Adler Athletic Complex. The girls play at 6:30 and the boys play at 8:30
