B-A came off its second win in a row hungry for more, and that clearly showed in a 19-0 shutout over Glendale this past Wednesday.
With that performance the Blue Devils scoring average rises to 7.4 runs per game. B-A headed into this game looking to continue the kind of play they have been showcasing, but also to put together a 3-game winning streak. It only took 3 innings for B-A to terminate the Vikings.
Freshmen Killian Worthing played a significant part in the win both offensively and defensively. He started on the bump for B-A, and that was the right move because Glendale did not have an answer for his arsenal. Worthing looked extremely comfortable on the mound, striking out 7 batters and holding the Vikings to only 1 hit.
Worthing would also contribute in the batter’s box, finding a way on base in all 3 of his plate appearances while also driving in 2 runs.
Junior Camden Swogger also played a key part in Bellwood’s massive win, reaching base in each and every one of his plate appearances, going 4-4. If Swogger wasn’t happy with the result of his hit, he found a different way to get that extra base. Showcasing his speed, Swogger would steal 2 bases on Glendale catcher Ethan Gilbey.
Swogger also drove in 4 runs.
Another player making a difference was Zach Gonzalez, who has emerged as an offensive force this season. Gonzalez went 2-for-3, with one of those hits being a triple. Gonalez would come all the way around to score each time he got on base and would also drive in 4 RBI’s.
The Blue Devils finished the game with 14 total hits, 19 total runs, and the confidence to now say they’re on a winning streak. B-A now has a winning record of 4-3.
The Devils will be back at it next week after their game Friday against Bedford was postponed for weather-related reasons. B-A will tke on Bald Eagle Area Tuesday.
