The Lady Blue Devils traveled to Williamsburg last night where they defeated the Blue Pirates 60-37.

Although Bellwood-Antis won, 2-10 Williamsburg kept the game close for three of the four quarters.

“We won, which was good,” said senior Caroline Showalter. “But we could have done better. We should have attacked them more by being more aggressive and getting to the foul line.”

In the first quarter the Blue Devils scored 12 points, but struggled defensively, allowing Williamsburg to score 8.

In the second quarter B-A pulled away, scoring 17 while holding Williamsburg to only 2. The big second quarter put Bellwood ahead 29-10 at the half.

In both the third and fourth quarter the Lady Blue Devils were able to put up points offensively, but they continued to struggle on defense. In the third quarter B-A was outscored by the Blue Pirates 16-15, however, in the fourth quarter B-A scored 16 points to Williamsburg’s 11.

“We played well at times but I think we took out opponent lightly and didn’t play with the passion we had in the past few games,” said B-A coach Jim Swaney.  “Those things happen sometimes and we will learn from the experience.”

Karson Swogger led the Lady Blue Devils with 27 points, while Sophie Damiano netted 12.

The win last night improved Bellwood’s record to 14-4 and extended the Lady Devils’ winning streak to eight games. B-A’s next game will be on February 2 when it travels to West Branch.
