We survived the PSSA tests!
Put your pencils down!
It was that time of the year again at the Bellwood-Antis Middle School. Time when the students put on their thinking caps, got out those sturdy number two pencils and got to work! Here at BAMS we take the Pennsylvania System Of School Assessment, better known as the PSSA test.
This year’s testing began the first week of April with Language Arts followed by Math and ending this week with Science. The majority of students took the test, but some chose to opt out (which means they did not have to take the test). Many who participated in the testing found the experience to be very overwhelming and stressful. Some teachers passed out mints to help students better focus on the questions. Mrs. Nycum, a seventh grade reading teacher, even used a peppermint scented humidifier to help reduce the stress level and to help the students better focus on the materials.
Seventh grader Kaia Claypoole, who has been taking the PSSA since fourth grade said, “I feel nervous about taking the test, but I feel confident that I will be more proficient than last year.”
Let’s hope all of the students performed as well as Kaia on the tests and earned at least a proficient score, which indicates that the teacher did great job on teaching that subject and the student did an equally great job on learning the topic!
